Safeway Open 2016
Tiger Woods has officially withdrawn from the Safeway Open this weekend. His much anticipated return after 14 months off will have to wait until December, where he is eyeing to make his comeback at his Foundation’s Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. Woods released a statement on Monday afternoon, offering the following:
“After a lot of soul searching, and honest reflection, I know that I am not yet ready to play on the PGA TOUR or compete in Turkey. My health is good and I feel strong, but my game is vulnerable and not where it needs to be. It’s not up to my standards, and I don’t think it would be up to yours.”
A commendable act by Tiger, especially knowing how badly his fans want him back…and how badly the PGA needs him back. Any tournament Tiger is playing in moves the needle significantly.
With the USA fresh off a Ryder Cup win, the sport of golf is still riding high in the States and the Safeway Open offers a very talented field. Professionals will team up with amateurs and celebs during Wednesday’s Pro-Am, before teeing off in the first tournament of the 16-17 FedEx Cup season in Napa, CA.
The Course: The Safeway Open is held at Silverado Resort & Spa (North), a Robert Trent Jones designed par 72 that runs 7,203 yards from the tips.
The Weather: Rain will play a major factor as the weekend progresses. Fri/Sat/Sun all looking to have rain in the forecast.
Thursday – Overcast skies with high around 65. 10% chance of rain.
Friday – Cloudy with rain. Temps around 60. Chance of rain 100%.
