Preview: College Football Rivalry Week

Rivalry Week this year is jam packed with some of the best matchups you can put on paper. College Football Playoff implications, Conference Championship impications, and well…bragging rights will have teams all sorts of fired up Saturday. Here’s a look at some of the big matchups:

The Iron Bowl

Alabama-Auburn. Roll Tide-War Eagle. Perhaps, the most popular college football rivalry…Saturday features another ranked matchup between the opponents. #13 Auburn travels to Bryant-Denny Stadium this year to try to put a dent in the #1 ranked Alabama’s undefeated season. 3:30 PM EST. Don’t miss thiron-bowlis one.

Alabama holds the upper hand in the all-time series 44-35-1. The game was originally played in the steel town of Birmingham, Alabama, giving the Iron Bowl its appropriate name.

College football is a religion in Alabama…who you root for determines where you live, who you hang out with, who you are allowed to date, etc. This week’s game has major implications for both teams with Auburn looking to move its way up the rankings and Alabama hungry to hold on to it’s number 1 spot and undefeated season. Despite the closeness in the team’s rankings, Alabama should roll in this one. Alabama 42 Auburn 17

The Game

The Ohio State and Michigan rivalry is right up there with Bama-Auburn, dating back to 1897, Michigan is leading the all-time series 58-47-6.
hi-res-e9f05469681ade6ac545c51f5f8012b4_crop_northWe gave somewhat of a preview in our last post, but this year’s matchup may have more on the line than any in history, with the 10-1 teams facing off as the #2 and #3 teams in the country. A win means staying in the College Football Playoff top 4, but a shot at the Big 10 Championship game is still also the line. Right now Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State are all 7-1 in the East Division.

Michigan wins and they are in the title game, no questions asked and no help needed from other teams.

Ohio State need to first beat Michigan…no small task, but then also needs a major upset from Michigan State over Penn State. Not likely, but we’ve seen crazier.

“The Game”kicks off at 12 Noon EST. Ohio State has won the last 4 meetings in this storied rivalry and we think they continue the trend this week. Ohio State 21 Michigan 20

#4 Clemson takes on South Carolina in The Palmetto Bowl. Clemson 45 South Carolina 10

#6 Wisconsin will play Minnesota for Paul Bunyan’s Axe. Wisconsin 24 Minnesota 10

The Land Grant Trophy is up for grabs between Michigan State and #7 Penn State. MSU has the trophy in its hands now, but PSU has the upper hand in this one. Penn State 31 Michigan State 20

#8 Oklahoma and #10 Oklahoma State continue its Bedlam Series next weekend. A lopsided series (OU leads 85-18-7) should give us a good one next week. Oklahoma 34 Oklahoma State 30

Rivalry Week in college football yields some of sports’ best games. Tune in tomorrow at Noon to see what the next chapter has to read.
